The Organization was founded by area librarians in Genesee County who saw a
need for an adult literacy program in 1977. Originally it was called the
Literacy Volunteers of Genesee County, the name changed to Literacy Genesee,
Inc in 2004, and added Orleans County to its service area a year later.
We train volunteers from within out communities to tutor adults ages 16, out
of school, and older who wish to improve their basic reading, writing, math,
computer, daily living, and/or conversational speaking English skills.
